CfP – Prophecy, Prediction, and the Politics of Futurity

The 2026 Journal of the History of Ideas Graduate Student Symposium, will be held online on October 17, 2026. The theme for this year’s Symposium is “Prophecy, Prediction, and the Politics of Futurity.” Graduate students at all stages of their program and working on different topics, periods, and regions are invited to submit a 500-word abstract on the history of futurity (broadly conceived) and can refer to our preliminary bibliography as a point of departure.

The deadline for submitting proposals is June 22, 2026. Students whose proposals are accepted will develop an article-length paper (7,000–9,000 words) over the summer and ultimately present and receive feedback on their work from their peers and faculty members of the Journal of the History of Ideas editorial board at the Symposium.
