Mearcstapan is a student medievalist society at Oxford focused on making medievalism more accessible and inclusive.
Our goal is to bring medieval studies to a wider audience of students and empower students within medieval studies to share their own unique perspectives. We do weekly events in term time, including talks from leading academics in understudied medievalisms, creative workshops that get us up-close and personal with the medieval world, and chill socials! We also have a Substack, @mearcstackan, where students and amateurs are welcome to submit their own medievalist writing! We also very excitingly made our first edition of our magazine, The Wordhoard, last term, which featured and celebrated even more student medievalist writing. You can see all of these and our termcard on our website, www.mearcstapan.co.uk , or on our Instagram @mearcstapan.
We’re also currently really interested in expanding our scope to be even more interdisciplinary, as we are mostly run by English students at the moment, we’ve had desires from non-English students to increase the scope of the society and we are all about interdisciplinarity to enrich our own individual specialisms.
Anybody interested in getting involved in the Mearcstapan community, contact Ella O’Shea, one of the co-presidents, via Mearcstapan me*********@****on.me. We would love it if you’d be happy to publicise us in your networks!
